Tiger Lily's story

tiger lily i really can’t put into words the connection i had with her. the only way i can explain it is that we were soul tied. she knew everything about me and was a constant in my life. there was just an indescribable feeling and pull between us, and it sounds incredibly silly to even talk about. i think i had only known her for around two years when she got sick. it was never enough time. i imagined her being mine until i had kids, and her teaching them everything she taught me, all while not being able to talk, although i wish she could’ve. i wish a lot of things about her. i wish she could’ve met my grandma, lived in my backyard, and that founder didn’t take her from me so quickly. i don’t want to talk about how the tissues in her hooves failed, how much pain she was in, or how she never really showed it. i don’t want to talk about how it all happened on a random monday morning when i happened to not have school and could be there with her while she died in my arms. instead, this is my start to think about her and honor her the way i want to, by thinking of her, talking about her, and not letting her be forgotten because she was so important to me. i know some people don’t understand because, after all, she was “just a horse.” but in my mind, i think she was a protector of sorts, sent to me by the people watching out for me. one of my favorite memories was going to the hampton classic with her. she was truly the most trustworthy pony ever. it just felt special bringing her to a place i had gone to for years with my family, because by then, she was part of my family too. the last thing i’d like to end on is a song that will always remind me of her, by the smiths, of course. “there is a light that never goes out,” because she truly was a light that will never go out in my life.
