Moose's story
Moose came into my life as my second cat, but first with my wife, i’d never raised my own cat as a kitten and decided it was finally time. I’d been looking online around local shelters and there was a tabby at the local petsmart so I decided to go check it out. Moose was not the cat i was supposed to get, but there was something about him that was captivating and i decided he was coming home with me. He was asleep, next to another grey girl but he just looked like he was meant to be mine, so i rushed back home for a carrier and when i got back, there was a lady that seemed interested in my Moose!! She saw me with the carrier and asked who i was taking and pointed to my boy, i’ll never forget her chuckle saying, “oh he’s a crazy one, he was just jumping all over that poor girl!!” I took him home and he fit right in with Oobla and Bean. At first he seemed to gravitate towards my wife but after about 4 days, he latched onto me, literally. He’d scream and cry for me to pick him up so he could suckle on my ear, and i was living for it. A tiny creature, so innocent and pure, needing me to hold him, me to comfort him and me to make him feel safe, it was a connection i never knew i needed. He was hilarious, sweet, rambunctious, insane, loud and the BIGGEST mommas boy. Every morning like clock work after breakfast, he’d cry for me to hold him like a baby for 10 minutes and then it was time for fetch until he decided he was tired. His favorite was his pickle, which he stole from Bean and kept with him till the day he passed. Moose taught me a lot about letting go even though it’s the last thing i wanted. Moose got sick over a few months with a rapid decline in his last week, i always told myself i’d never let my babies suffer if i could help it. Unfortunately i wasn’t able to help Moose, his vet was so gracious and helpful in navigating his death, helping us keep him comfortable in his final days and pouring all of my love into him while he was surrounded by his family. I’ll forever miss holding him like a baby while he nuzzled his face into my neck, the pawing at me to make space for him to lay in my armpit, cutting up his cucumbers and watermelon for a nice summer snack.
