Miso's story

Miso passed away tragically on October 23rd, 2026. Finding him was the hardest thing I have ever been through in my life. I know it is a privilege to not have experienced a loss this great yet in my life but I don’t know how to move on in the world without him. I got Miso when I was living in Plattsburgh (unfortunately) during a time that I didn’t know who I was yet. I wasn’t happy there but getting Miso changed everything. The second I saw him I knew that he was mine. We brought him home and he showed his huge personality right away. He never wanted to be away from me, followed me everywhere and always had his tongue sticking out. When I had to pack up everything and drive the 5 hours home from Plattsburgh, Miso sat in the passenger seat next to me the entire drive, just looking up at me. He was not a regular cat, he had so much soul and sweetness inside of him, he needed to show everyone he came across just how much he loved people and attention. He comforted me no matter what and he was beside me as I grew up into the person I am today. When I first met Miso I was immature and unsure of myself and what I wanted. When I moved back home with him he became even more attached. We did everything together and he slept above my head on my pillow every night. I let him explore the yard and discovered how much he loved to be outside and play. He would run and pant like a dog, something he did up until the day he was gone. As much as I wish I never let him see the outdoors, I know he was the happiest when he was able to explore and hunt. He always came back so happy to see me and ready to be scooped up into my arms. I would put him over my shoulder and spank his back and butt and he loved it more than anything in the world. The first day we got him he was making biscuits in the air with his paws, and he never stopped doing that. He would make biscuits on my back while I spanked him and he could be held like that for hours if I kept him there. All he wanted was affection and attention, he loved being told how handsome and perfect he was. He would look in my eyes and just blink at me slowly showing me how much he loved me. I hope he knew how much he meant to me and how much I loved him. When he moved to Tarrytown with us it was a hard transition, I felt horrible taking him away from his big house and outdoor oasis, but I knew I needed him with me. Eventually, he adapted and we got him his brother Mochi. Miso was the best big brother, he was patient with Mochi when he was a baby and just wanted to play and attack Miso. He showed him how to be a cat to the best of his abilities(even though Mochi didn’t use a lot of his teaching). They would give each other baths and lay on the couch together, and Mochi would follow Miso everywhere. I know he looked up to him and loved him so much. Miso grew to love the apartment, as much as he wanted to go outside he also wanted to be cozy inside with us. He would sit on the coffee table while we watched movies or sit on top of a game we were playing or craft we were making. He put himself in the middle of everything because he just wanted to be with us and get our attention. He knocked things off our dressers when he wanted us to do something for him, he would stare directly in our eyes and just smack a glass right off the table. When I was in bed sleeping he would stare me down and meow incessantly and if I made a move as if I was getting up he would jump right down and run into the kitchen. He loved his dry food and would easily manipulate us into giving him more and more throughout the day. I’m surprised he wasn’t a chunky cat, but he got his fair share of exercise being outside everyday. Miso would let anyone come up to him and pet him and pick him up and show him love. He loved all people and wanted to rub against their legs and hear them say how cute he was. My favorite recent memories of Miso is the summertime, going outside with him and just sitting in the sun. Miso would roll around back and forth on the front stoop in the sun and sunbathe all day. I loved the way the sunlight would make his fur turn brown. People passing by on the sidewalk would always stop and say hi to him and he would be so happy. Sometimes when we went on walks he would follow us a few houses down but then turn around and just wait for us to come back. So many times we would come home and Miso would come running down the driveway meowing at us ready to come inside with us. He made a lot of cat friends throughout town too, and a couple of enemies I’m sure. But I like to think he mainly went to find other cats to be friends with them, there were a few times I found him with other cats in a yard just sitting and hanging out. He loved to sit on the roof and people watch when we wouldn’t let him outside. He would sit out there all night, and I loved coming home and looking up and seeing him out there waiting and meowing. There are endless things I can say about Miso, he was my soul cat, he was my best friend, he was with me through everything and made me into the person that I am today. Nothing could ever replace the bond that we had and the way that he made me feel. I loved him more than anything in the world and I will continue to love him in every lifetime. I know he will come see me in my dreams like he always has. He deserved the best life and I know he lived it, I only wish it could have been longer. I needed more time with him. I had pictured him with us for many more years, moving into a new home with us, meeting our babies, and growing old. He was supposed to do it all. I will never forget him, he will be in my mind everyday for the rest of my life. I will live my life for him and remember him and honor him in everything I do. Miso, I love you so very much and I am so so sorry that you had to go. You will be loved for eternity and you have given me the greatest gift I could have ever asked for; a best friend and the love of my life, my protector and my warrior cat. I love you always.
